My Story

Giacomo De Stefano (1988) is a Milan-based documentary photographer and filmmaker.

He has worked internationally as a set builder on traveling TV shows, films, commercials and live productions, an experience that allowed him to collaborate with workers and artisans across different countries and cultures.

These encounters led him to develop an ongoing photographic research focused on labor, shared conditions and social class, built around the idea that people often have more in common across borders than within national divisions.

After living in Australia, New Zealand and spending six years in Bristol (UK), he returned to Milan, where he continues his work.

Following volunteer experiences in the Calais refugee camp and aboard the Louise Michel rescue ship, he began focusing more deeply on documentary photography and underreported social realities.

In 2024, he produced a photographic reportage in Myanmar during the ongoing civil war, working in close contact with local communities to document everyday life and the human impact of the conflict.

He is currently producing a documentary film shot in Ghana, centered on an unconventional religious leader and entrepreneur. The project is in post-production.

His work explores human relationships, labor and social dynamics through long-term, field-based documentary practice.
